That's Ernie standing on a flat rock at the summit of Mt. Madison amidst a pack of thru-hikers. It never ceases to amaze me, watching the thru-hikers burn up the trail. By the time they get to New England they're lean and fit, but, boy, can they eat. I happened to observe one of the guys in this crowd eat a heaping plate of scrambled eggs (I'd say about half-a-dozen), a bowl of pea soup and a big bag of trail mix at a hut in the morning, then came across him two hours later at the snack bar on the summit of Mt. Washington eating at least two hot dogs and a couple of slices of pizza. I don't think there are any other snack bars on mountaintops on the trail, so I guess you have to get it where you can.
